Product Details

Distiller Notes: Named after the largest coastal redwood tree, The Lost Monarch, is a blend of 60% Rye and 40% Bourbon.

Dark amber color with a slightly orange cast. Complex nose, with close, cinnamon, vanilla, orange citrus zest and butterscotch notes, and an intriguing hint of sandalwood. Sweetness of corn and spiciness from rye combine with an almost maple syrup-like flavor. Vanilla and caramel note lead to a persistent, yet subdued peppery finish.

Press Reviews

95TASTING PANEL

Produced in Sonoma County, this spirit is named for Northern California’s giant redwood trees—specifically the Lost Monarch, which is 320 feet tall and 26 feet in diameter. The pleasant nose captures a succulent perfume of peach and maple. The warming palate is washed by creamy brown sugar and leather, and apricot, peach, and white pepper flow in to add even more body. Cinnamon toast and pumpkin fill out the complex finish.

90WINE ENTHUSIAST

Named for one of the largest redwood trees on the west coast, this is a blend of straight bourbon and rye whiskeys aged at least 3 years in the temperate climate of the California coast. Look for dried apricot and baked pear aromas. The palate is similarly fruity, showing dried fig, dried date and walnut, finishing long and drying, with clove and black pepper heat.

90WHISKY ADVOCATE

A blend of 3 to 5 year old straight rye and 4 to 12 year old straight bourbon. Although the nose is a bit reticent, once it opens up, what is revealed is pure delight: orange blossom, iced tea, dark berries, lemon oil, pine, cinnamon, nutmeg, and leather. Fruit and spice enjoy a dynamic interplay on the palate, with orange, cherry, blueberry, and grape, shot through with cedar, cinnamon, and sturdy oak. The medium-length finish is supple and pretty: dark chocolate, toasted pecans, and well-integrated oak.
